History and Background

Nomad Sculpt is developed by Stephane Ginier, the French independent developer who earlier wrote the open-source browser sculptor SculptGL and worked at Sketchfab. On 17 January 2026 he archived the SculptGL repository with the note that development had stopped because he was now working on Nomad Sculpt instead. Nomad was designed for touch first, on iPad and Android tablets.

Strengths

  • One-finger sculpting with a far shorter learning curve than desktop software.
  • Exchanges Nomad, glTF, OBJ, STL, PLY, USD and FBX, so sculpts move without remodelling.
  • Live synchronization: the work appears in Blender or ZBrush as you sculpt.
  • A one-time purchase with no subscription; mobile and desktop versions are bought separately.

What You Should Know

  • The desktop license is tied to the machine identifier and works offline for 15 days without a login.
  • A touch interface can be awkward for modelers accustomed to precise mouse work.
  • Layer, hierarchy and light support is limited in some formats.

Who Is It For?

Concept artists, designers working on a tablet, and studios producing displacement maps.
