The peaceful, cuddly Fuzzy Wuzzies thought their nightmare was over after defeating the Demons in their homeland. But the surviving Demon warlords staged a vicious midnight raid, kidnapping dozens of defenseless baby Fuzzies! Now, hero Clyde Radcliffe must brave the Demon strongholds to liberate his children before they fall victim to the demons' sadistic torture machines.
Creatures II alternates between side-scrolling platform levels and devious single-screen 'Torture Screens'. In the puzzle screens, an innocent Fuzzy baby is strapped into a gruesome Rube-Goldberg death trap (acid pits, spinning buzzsaws, descending crushers). Players have mere seconds to interact with levers, pulleys, and bounce pads to deflect hazards and rescue the baby Fuzzy before a gruesome, darkly comical demise.
Apex Computer Productions utilized their proprietary 'Fuzzicolor' graphic system, pushing the C64's VIC-II chip to display rich multi-colored sprites without typical horizontal color bleed. The game features silky-smooth parallax layers, expressive character animations, and Steve Rowlands' bouncy, theatrical SID musical score.
Joystick Port 2: Left/Right to Move, Fire to Jump / Fire Weapon (in platform levels). On Torture Screens: Move Clyde to push switches, fire potions, or alter trap trajectories.
Celebrated for its pitch-black cartoon humor and punishing puzzle design, Creatures II earned a staggering 97% in Commodore Format, ranking among the top-rated puzzle platformers on any 8-bit computer.
