In 1997, tabloid reporter Zak McKracken of the National Inquisitor wakes from a bizarre dream involving two-headed squirrels and ancient Martian pyramids. Soon, Zak discovers that the alien Caponians have disguised themselves as the phone company (The Telephone Company) and are broadcasting a 60 Hz hum through phone lines to reduce the human race's collective IQ to stupidity.
Players control Zak, anthropologist Annie, and two students stationed on Mars (Melissa and Leslie). The adventure spans the globe—from San Francisco and Bermuda to London, Egypt, Nepal, and the surface of Mars. Featuring intricate inventory puzzles, disguise mechanics (fake nose and glasses), and telepathic mind-reading with animals.
Building upon the SCUMM engine, Zak McKracken featured enormous multi-room scrolling backgrounds and Matthew Kane's unforgettable jazzy chiptune soundtrack with dynamic tempo changes during dialogue scenes.
Joystick Port 2: Pointer control with classic SCUMM verb bar (Push, Pull, Use, Walk to, Talk to, Turn on/off).
Achieving cult classic status across Europe and America, Zak McKracken remains one of the most beloved comedic graphic adventures of all time.
