Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe was released in 1990 by Image Works and developed by The Bitmap Brothers for the Commodore Amiga. It stands as one of the defining titles in the machine's legendary 16-bit software library, and remains a favourite among retro computing enthusiasts, demosceners and digital preservationists.
A brutal futuristic sports game combining handball and ice hockey, where players fight for control of a metal ball in a violent arena. Its addictive gameplay, superb presentation and iconic 'Ice Cream!' sample made it a genre-defining Amiga classic.
On the Amiga, the game made full use of the machine's custom chipset â the Agnus blitter, Denise video processor and Paula 4-channel sound synthesizer â to deliver smooth, fast-scrolling 2D playfield graphics and rich sampled audio that set it apart from IBM PC DOS CGA/EGA systems and 8-bit home micros of its time.
